super bowl sunday. 30s and 40s around the bay area. the east wind in livermore is a sign of things to come. offshore winds help to keep the skies mostly clear. for the coast this means warming temperatures here. breezy this afternoon. temperatures benefitting from that. 12:00, 1:00 in the afternoon, already low to mid 60s around parts of the bay area. tomorrow looks warmer. the numbers climb up into thursday and friday. for the weekend, still nice. a few extra clouds running a little bit cooler headed into saturday and sunday. mike? >> we're looking at the bay bridge with a few more cars lining up at the cash lanes. fast track lanes okay. no meters lights yet. we should see them in five to ten minutes. our speed censor showing a slower drive on the incline.

we had heavier traffic. it sorted itself out. speeds coming down through hayward to union city for the southbound direction of 880. we have slowing here for 580 westbound to the tri valley. a typical drive headed over to 680 into fremont. a live look at fremont shows you the southbound side with the headlights. we are seeing slowing through fremont into nopedis for the southbound commute direction. the south bay with a smooth drive northbound. 101 at the upper right corner. you see slowing from 680 to the airport starting to build in a gradual sense now. southbound 880 as you pass by the construction crew should be

cleared. if you pass by in the next ten minutes you may get slowing clearing the lane and the off ramp. south of 237. back to you. >> mike, thank you. after nearly 30 years of mystery. san francisco police may have a new lead in the disappearance of a 10-year-old boy. his name, kevin collins last seen way back in 1984. just yesterday police serving a search warrant on a home that's just blocks away. "today in the bay" has the latest on the twist. good morning. >> if you have lived in the bay area long enough you remember. in fact, i can remember seeing kevin collins picture on the back of the milk cartons when i was a little girl. when i was enjoying my morning cereal. that's how long ago this happened. he was one of the first missing children to appear on a milk carton. 29 years later and investigators were at this home on the 1100

block of ma sonic avenue yesterday. think drilled through the floor where cadaver dogs picked up a scent and they found bones. the medical examiner says they appear to be animal bones. that's not certain. the bones are undergoing more testing. we are now waiting to hear the results. the dig happened in the vicinity of where kevin collins disappeared. we spoke to his brother who still lives in the bay area. steven collins tells us kevin was on his way home from basketball practice and was last seen at oak and ma sonic. steven says the new lead is good but the family has been through it before. >> gotten our hopes up, gotten

gdp wasn't expected to get smaller. let me be specific. we are not talking the number is smaller like slow growth. no growth. negative growth. two quarters of negative growth is a recession. it's a small decrease. almost entirely due to smaller defense spending. halfway to a recession by even such a small margin. that's a real surprise this morning. facebook meanwhile reports its profits this afternoon. facebook has been working hard to solve its problems with mobile. the company stock has been moving steadily upward. just over $30 it's still below the ipo price set last may. the trial that will never end -- apple versus samsung took another twist in san jose federal court when judge lucy koh said she would not increase the penalty against sam sung for copy right infringement. she said there is not enough evidence that samsung willingly infringed on apple design. when you look at the two

excellent compared to last year. we look at numbers in the snow report. you can see the squaw valley looks great. groomed. look at the forecast. nothing in your way. a gorgeous time up at squaw valley. at the base, 60 inches up to 88. close to 90 higher up the mountain. groomed conditions and fantastic weather to head up there. that's a look at the toyota tahoe snow report. i want to point out why this is a good ski season. down from december but you have a healthy snow pack in the sierra.

30s and 40s outside. an offshore wind warming up livermore. that's a sign of warmer changes today. changes to put us into the 60s for highs today. close to 70 in santa cruz. you saw the numbers in the sierra. high pressure keeps us clear for the next couple of days. today we go for upper 60s closer to santa cruz. low to mid 60s around san jose. tri valley in the mid 60s. near 60 and the peninsula near 60 and cooling off into the weekend. we'll see the numbers cooling off. still our quest for 60s will continue at least into the beginning of next week and maybe a chance of rain and snow coming

back. >> a quest for 60. we have to get through number six first. looking at 580 and 680. the dublin interchange. a typical flow of traffic. look at this. this is the commute westbound. counter commute eastbound out of the area toward the altima. a new crash around vasco. keep in mind that will add minutes to your drive as you head out for the tri valley. we are looking at the walnut creek interchange. south 680, 242 and walnut creek moving nicely toward that. a drive over to the bay bridge shows you more volume of traffic. not a big issue. ashby showing surface street traffic. here a little red. toll plaza. the metering lights have been

sfo. looks like traffic on 101. also a live look waiting for the suns arrival over san jose this morning. a really pretty day ahead. we'll check the forecast coming up with with meteorologist rob bayes in for christine this morning. san jose sharks start the season undefeated. sharks are now 6-0 after last night's game against the ducks. sharks trailed 2-1 late in the third. logan couture came through with a game tying goal. final score 3-2. >> sharks looking and feeling good. the super bowl players may notice noets a different taste in the gatorade sunday. pepsi announcing yesterday it is removing a controversial ingredient. bvo has been patented as a flame retardant and it's banned in europe and asia. this ingredient has not been banned by the fda. it's actually used to emulsify flavors in gatorade drinks.

the system will be up and running. new video shows us when a car passes by a picture of the license plate is generated and mailed to your home. you can pay through an established account or through mail sending the money back in. 70% of drivers use the fast track system already. that's still an option. there will be a cash payment option off side. they will have stations away from the golden gate bridge. this is going to save 19 million dollars for the golden kbaet bridge. this is a test that goes into effect in 60 days. kristy smith, "today in the bay." >> 6:32. police are searching for roberts who strong armed a jewelry store. the suspects targeted the davidson and licht jewelry store before 2:20 yesterday afternoon.

no one was hurt but several watches were stolen. the suspects fled in a black infinity which was driven by a third suspect. >> a bay area man suing the boy scouts of america claiming he was sexually abused by a scout master. the alleged abuse happened when the victim was 14 years old. now the victim is an adult and a veteran of the u.s. coast guard. the lawsuit will be formally announced in san francisco this morning. >> plans to extend the stevens creek trail are on the drawing board and city leaders are asking for your help. a public meeting will be held to discuss possible routes for the new trail. the project is a multi city effort involving sunny vail and mountain view. tonight's meeting starts at 7:00 at the sunny vail grand ballroom. >> rob is in for credit that.

>> san jose and the difference this morning compared to last, we had the high clouds. less high clouds this morning. a sunny start. temperatures going for a running start. we are seeing east winds into livermore. the offshore breezes will be what warms up temperatures today. mostly 60s. near 70 toward thursday and friday. the weekend looks cooler. a few more clouds fill in. rising through the weekend. high pressure to the west. look at the clouds offshore. a big hair dryer in the atmosphere drying things and blowing clouds away from the coast. you can see it off to the west. hour by hour with the cloud cover, not much there. high clouds drifting by and the coast should be mostly sunny.

bunker. that man allegedly walked to a school bus yesterday, shot the driver several times and took off. the driver later died in the hospital. >> we have new video of the deadly nightclub fire in brazil. police are releasing never before seen shots of inside the club. at least 24 people died in the fire over the weekend. dozens remain hospitalized. investigators believe a flare used during a band's performance actually caused that blaze. there were 244 people killed in the blaze. >> also new, south korea successfully launched a rocket into space from its own soil. this launch coming as tensions on the korean peninsula grow due to threats by the north koreans to carry out a possible test there. last month north korea launched its own rocket into space. a test many western countries believe was a possible nuclear warhead. >> 6:40.

pacifica in the mid 60s in not close to 70 for friday. the weekend, the quest for 60 still looks good. partly cloudy skies. a chance of rain and snow tuesday into wednesday. mike? >> hey, folks. i have to start off with the worst part of my job. i have to report a deadly accident over here. we talked about the crash eastbound at greenville for 580. there was a car fire. reports that someone has died as a result of the crash and car fire. the sig alert is in place causing a big distraction because of the fire and equipment. a couple of hours from what chp says. the eastbound commute. you don't usually see that slow down there. look at the red crawling past the scene. the earlier fire and the investigation continues. they can't even begin to move out of the area. that's holding folks up before they get to vasco.

>> san francisco police say a person of interest lived around the 1100 block of masonic avenue. this person used to live here in the 80s. it's been some time. they found bones beneath the garage floor. investigators drilled through to detect the scent. the medical examiner said the bones appear to belong to an animal. we are waiting for the proper testing to be done in order to confirm or deny that notion. this is not the first time detectives have been in this area recently. one woman says officers showed up in december wanting to look into her neighbor's yard. >> you can see out my window

into the backyard. they said there was a homicide investigation about something that happened 20 years ago. >> kevin collins was last seen at oak and masonic on february 10, 1984. that's just a couple of blocks from where we are this morning where the dig happened yesterday. his disappearance gripped the bay area and even gained national attention. he was one of the first missing kids to appear on a milk carton. if you have lived in the bay area for some time, you can remember just like i do seeing kevin's face on the back of milk cartons. it's a story you can never forget. collins would have turned 39 years old. >> it is 6:56.

gun rights activists holding a rally in san francisco to speak against a proposed ban on assault weapons. the western representation political action committee holding a press conference today starting at 10:00. today's rally is a precursor to the national day of resistance with gun rallies taking place february 23. meantime the debate over gun control continues on capitol hill. of course in the wake of the recent shooting massacres in both klt and colorado. this morning the national rifle association and gun control advocates speaking during a senate judiciary hearing. the nra executive wayne la pierre will talk about enforcing existing weapons laws and boosting school security on the other side of the story the husband of former arizona representative gabrielle giffords will testify for stricter legislation.
